You have heard about antioxidants in blueberries and green tea. But did you know that water can be an antioxidant 5 times more powerful? We explain what redox potential is and how alkaline Kangen Water neutralizes free radicals.
To understand what ORP (redox potential) is, let us start with something you have seen thousands of times — a sliced apple sitting on a plate.
Right after cutting, the apple is bright, white, juicy. Full of vitamins and freshness.
Oxygen from the air reacts with the apple cells. The flesh begins to darken. This is oxidation in action.
Sprinkled with lemon juice (an antioxidant) the apple stays bright much longer. Ascorbic acid neutralizes the free radicals.
The same process happens inside your body. Free radicals — unstable molecules — “attack” your cells, causing gradual damage. This is the aging process at the cellular level. Antioxidants neutralize this attack by “giving” the free radical its missing electron and stopping the chain reaction.
A free radical is a molecule with an unpaired electron. This makes it highly reactive — it seeks a neighboring molecule to “steal” an electron from. That molecule in turn becomes a free radical and attacks the next one. This creates a chain reaction that destroys proteins, fats, and cellular DNA.
Free radicals are produced by: normal metabolic processes, stress, air pollution, UV radiation, processed food, smoking, and alcohol. In other words — living normally, you produce free radicals non-stop.
Antioxidants neutralize free radicals by “giving” them an electron without becoming unstable themselves. That is why a diet rich in fruits and vegetables — sources of antioxidants — is associated with good health and slower aging.
The problem: antioxidants from food and supplements must pass through the digestive system, where some of their properties are lost. Kangen Water delivers antioxidants in bioelectric form — absorbed directly through cell walls.
ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential) is an electrical measurement expressed in millivolts (mV) that determines whether a liquid tends to oxidize (take electrons) or reduce (donate electrons).
Positive ORP (+) — the liquid tends to oxidize, it takes electrons from neighboring molecules. Such a liquid promotes free radical activity. The higher the positive ORP, the more oxidizing the liquid.
Negative ORP (−) — the liquid tends to reduce, it donates electrons. Such a liquid neutralizes free radicals. The lower (more negative) the ORP, the stronger the antioxidant property.
The more negative the ORP, the stronger the antioxidant properties. Positive values indicate oxidizing action.
| Beverage | ORP (mV) | Action | Antioxidant Content |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cola, carbonated drinks | +400 mV | Strongly oxidizing | None (accelerates aging) |
| Bottled water | +100 mV | Oxidizing | None |
| Tap water | +50 mV | Mildly oxidizing | None |
| Green tea | -100 mV | Antioxidant | Moderate (polyphenols) |
| Kangen Water pH 9.5 | -400 to -722 mV | Strongly antioxidant | High (hydrogen ions) |
Kangen Water pH 9.5 has a negative ORP of approximately -400 to -722 mV, while freshly brewed green tea reaches only -100 mV. This means Kangen Water delivers antioxidants many times more powerfully — and is absorbed directly, without losing value during digestion.
Vitamin C tablets, green tea extract, coenzyme Q10 — all these supplements deliver antioxidants, but they have one drawback: they must pass through the digestive system. The stomach, small intestine, absorption through the intestinal wall — along the way, some antioxidant properties are lost.
Kangen Water delivers antioxidants in the form of hydrogen ions (H−). These ions are so small they penetrate directly through cell walls — without digestion, without intermediaries, without losses. This is a form of antioxidant available to every cell in the body.
Moreover — you take supplements once or twice a day. You drink water all day long, delivering antioxidants continuously, exactly when cells need them.
